Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ's

What is involved in the program?

The client will first learn how to correct perception and disorientation at will. This is accomplished via Davis Orientation Counseling®—as outlined in The Gift of Dyslexia by Ronald D. Davis.

The client will then learn how to master the basic symbols for reading and writing by creating the alphabet and abstract words using clay. This is a fun and easy way for clients to overcome confusions.

How is this program different from others?

The Davis® methods address the root cause of learning disabilities. This positive, creative-based program is DESIGNED for the learning style of the visual-spatial person. It uses the natural strengths and talents of the client’s personal learning style. Clients will learn HOW THEY LEARN and leave with the ability to implement the knowledge obtained during the program into daily life.

The program does not use phonics, colored-overlays, rote memorization, or repetitive drill. These address only the symptoms, not the root cause of Dyslexia.

How much does the program cost?

The assessment cost is $100. This 2 to 3-hour evaluation is designed to assess the client’s suitability for the Davis® program. After determining which program will best suit the client and establishing client motivation, a personalized program can be scheduled.

The Program cost is $3,300. *  The cost of the assessment is credited towards the program cost. Because programs are tailored to meet the specific needs of each client, programs length can vary. The typical program averages 30 hours. Rarely do they exceed 35 hours. The program price includes the following:

  • Approximately 30 hours of one-on-one facilitation. **

  • Student kit containing student manual, clay, dictionary, grammar book, Koosh® balls, procedure charts, and backpack.

  • Support training for all persons who will assist in supporting the client after the program.

  • Support tutorial

  • 4 weekly post-program contacts (phone, email, Skype/Facetime)! These are intended to help the transition back into school/life with weekly support contact with Stephanie. Up to one hour per week. Must be used within the first 6 weeks post program.

  • 3 two-hour post-program visits (if necessary).

  • Unlimited phone and email support.

*Programs taking longer than 35 hours will be pro-rated. A 10% deposit is required to secure program dates. Payment is typically due on the first day of the program, however, payment plans can be requested.

If this cost feels “out of reach,” please call to discuss options. In extreme cases, partial scholarships may be available.

Does this program work with adults?

Yes! At the age of 38, Ron Davis discovered the tools that allowed him to correct perception and, for the first time in his life, read an entire book in one sitting. After his discovery, the program was further tested and developed by working with adult dyslexic volunteers.

Motivated adults bring a level of maturity and self-awareness that make the program extremely rewarding and successful!

What can I expect to gain from the program?

Clients leave the program with the tools of basic literacy—including:

  • The ability to recognize and correct disorientations at will.
  • The ability to focus attention.
  • The knowledge of how to eliminate confusions in words and symbols.
  • Increased self-confidence and ability in reading, writing, math or physical skills.

Implementing the tools into every day life, as well as doing Davis Symbol Mastery® follow-up on trigger words, is necessary to ensure continued success with the program.

How much improvement in reading and writing can I expect?

The Davis Dyslexia Correction® Program has a 97% success rate! A typical program will provide for a significant improvement by the last day of the program. This is a literacy jump start…future progress is determined by the client’s motivation, continued use of tools, and completion of Symbol Mastery after the program.

How does the program work for home schooled children?

The Davis® Program blends beautifully with the home school setting. Upon completion of the one week 30-hour program, the facilitator will provide for you an overview of how to proceed for the next 4-6 months using the materials that you will be provided with.

Does FOCUS Dyslexia & Learning Solutions diagnose Dyslexia?

FOCUS Dyslexia & Learning Solutions provides a thorough screening for Dyslexia, but does not provide an official diagnosis.   An assessment/screening for Dyslexia will consist of an informal collection of information from the client and parents (if applicable) that will indicate if enough characteristics/symptoms are present. The assessment will determine if the client exhibits the signs and characteristics of Dyslexia and is a suitable candidate for our programs.

Dyslexia is not a “disease” – it is thinking and learning style.

There are numerous characteristics of Dyslexia and each dyslexic thinker has their own combinations of characters and symptoms. Frustratingly, there is also no uniformly accepted criteria for diagnosing Dyslexia, so professionals may disagree on whether or not a person is dyslexic, and/or use alternative diagnostic labels to describe the client’s symptoms – many will not use the word “Dyslexia” at all.  There are more than 70 different diagnoses that can be used to describe the various manifestations of dyslexic symptoms.

**An official diagnosis is NOT necessary to participate in the programs provided by FOCUS Dyslexia & Learning Solutions. **

Diagnostic testing is much more extensive and typically include tests for vision and hearing, as well as tests related to intellectual functioning, processing, intelligence (IQ), vocabulary/comprehension/phonemic awareness, and achievement.  In order to receive an official diagnosis for Dyslexia, this extensive testing must be done by a qualified professional, such as a neuropsychologist or educational psychologist.

How much follow-up work is necessary?

A powerful foundation is built during a Davis® program. In order to ensure continued success and improvement after your Davis® Program, continued use of the Davis tools is important to continue building on that powerful foundation. Critical follow-up work must be completed to eliminate triggers. You will receive everything you need in order to complete that work. Time frames will vary depending upon each client’s personal goals and support situation.  Working through all of the common dyslexia trigger words takes 6-12 months (working with 2-5 words per week) and is a fun and easy process.
